T his recently happened in my happy place, Anthropologie. I saw a display with a very flowy handkerchief top over a double layer stretch rib pencil tank dress. I thought "that could be cute:

Like I was Cinderella and the fairy godmother had made a dress just for me. Wow, they were good: they never took my measurements but had the coat altered to fit me perfectly, I was ecstatic.
I feel like this is just another example of the ugly side of the fashion industry. Nike doesn't care about them, the fashion companies don't care about them, they are perfectly ok with them going into debt for a look. Keeping people saddled down with debt so they cannot get out of their situations, because these kids have to have the coolest, newest outfit.
This was just a plain foreshadowing (truth in advertising?) of the illogical abuse that followed in the design houses. One day you were the darling, the president loved your designs and you could do no wrong. The next day
We decided the right thing to do was dress in a cute dress and forget the experiment for the night. I was super excited to shop my own closet for the first time in a while! When I put on my favorite leather dress, I thought, “well, this is a little too much celebration and I really don't want to draw attention to myself on someone else's birthday.”
Always have an outfit at the ready that you do not have to think about, especially if you have multiple events in a row. With the static wardrobe, a few extras on hand in the event of a yogurt explosion is very helpful.
